No matter how much faith we have, we lose loved ones. But we never forget them, and sometimes it's those memories that give us the strength to go on....

When I walked through Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home when GOD looked down and smiled at me from His Great Throne, He said, " This is Eternity and all that I've promised you."

GOD gives us all a litltle time, that time goes by so fast. We're told it is borrowed, we know it won't last. And then before we know it a lifetime has unfurled, then He takes us back to another world. But GOd is never selfish, He nurses us with love until we meet again in His Garden up Above.

I thought I saw your face today in the sparkle of the morning sun. And then I heard the Angel say, " His work on Earth is done." ~~ I thought I heard your voice today, then laugh your hearty laugh. And then I heard the Angel say, " There's peace dear one at last." ~~I thought I felt your touch today in the breeze that rustled by. And then the Angel said, " The spirit never dies." ~~ I thought I seen my broken heart in the crescent of the moon. And then I heard the Angel say, " The LORD is coming soon." ~~I thought that you had left me for the stars so far above. And then I heard the Angel say, " He left you with his love." ~~I thought that I would miss you so and never find my way. And then I heard the Angel say, " He's with you every day." " The sun, the wind, the moon, the stars, will forever be around, reminding you of the love you shared, and the peace he's finally found."

Did you know that an Eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks ?---The Eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the Eagle is soaring above it.-- The Eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. --When the storms of life come upon us, and all of us will experience them, we can rise above them by seeting our minds and our beliefs toward GOD. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow GOD'S power to lift us above them.--GOD enables us to ride the winds of the storm that brings sickness, tragedy, and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storms.--Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weighs us down, it is how we handle them.

Two smiling eyes are sleeping, two busy hands are still. The one you loved so deeply is resting at GOD'S will. May he walk in sunshine, GOD'S love around him glow. For all the love he gave you, only a few will ever know. It broke your hearts to lose him but he did not go alone. For a part of you went with him, the day GOD called him home.

Rainbows would never be rainbows if sunshine had never met rain. No one would need comfort if there was no sadness and pain. But life holds both sunshine and showers. The day's aren't all bright and fair. So look through the showers for the rainbows, you'll always find hope shining there.

Home in the Sky....I want you to know, a brief moment of darkness was all that I knew before Heaven's Gate came into view.~~Loved ones and friends I had missed for many years welcomed me with open arms and happy tears. ~~All the hurt, fear, and pain that I have ever known is gone from my life, I am finally Home. ~~ I gazed upon the LORD'S sweet smiling face, and for the first time in my life, I knew and felt his grace. ~~ I know that you miss me, but please dry your eyes. I will be watching and loving you from my home in the sky.

What really matters. ~~ Not where you live, but how you live. ~~ Not what you say, but what you do. ~~ Not what you take, but what you give. ~~ Not what you own, but what you share. ~~ Not what you avenge, but what you forgive. ~~ Not how you play, but how you pray. ~~ Not how you enjoy, but how you endure. ~~ Not how you look, but who you are. ~~Not how you work, but how you love.~~Not what's in the bank, but what's in your heart. ~~Not what other's think of you, but what GOD knows.

The Message: Everything is different since you've gone away. my heart keeps on breaking a little more each day. But don't look at this as the end, but just the very start. Together for eternity, never again to be apart. Please know I didn't leave you, I loved you all so much. One day we will be together to see, to feel, to touch. You say you didn't leave me, then why am I so blue ? How can I get through the day, when I need to talk to you ? I'm here and I will listen, my love did not depart. Ask anything that you want and I will answer in your heart. I LOVE YOU !!!

Submitted with David's family in mind.--I know a picture is worth a thousand words and I must have said a million lately as I stare into your picture. All I wish for and dream about is hearing your voice, feeling your touch (your wonderful hugs), and seeing your beautiful smile. I have shed a million tears these last 12 days and I can't seem to stop them. I miss you terribly and have a hard time to go on. Everyday is a challenge. I love you with all of my heart and I want to turn back time so that I could let you stay with me always.

In My Pocket... I have memories in my pocket, They rattle among the change. My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go. They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole. They give me comfort when I think I am alone. Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there. But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.---Dave you were one in a million. Your precious memory will be carried in the hearts of your friends and family forever.

Miss me, but let me go...When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free ?~~Miss me a little---but not too long and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared. Miss me--but let me go.~~For this is a journey that we must all take, and each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.~~When you are lonely, and sick of heart, go to friends we know and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me--but let me go.

Remember, spend time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say " I LOVE YOU " to your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember, to hold hands and cherish moments, for some day, that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.~~As long as you do these things you will always be loved and remembered as much David will be in the hearts of the lives he touched in his lifetime.~~

A friend ....Accepts you for who you are. Believes in you. Calls just to say "Hi". Doesn't give up on you. Envisions the whole you, even the unfinished parts. Forgives your mistakes. Gives unconditionally. Helps you. Just "be" with you. Keeps you close at heart. Loves you for who you are. Makes a difference in your life. Never judges. Offers support. Picks you up. Quiets your fears. Raises your spirit. Says nice things about you. Tells you the truth when you need to hear it. Understands you. Values you. Xplains things you don't understand. Yells when you won't listen. Zaps you back to reality.~~You will be truly missed my friend.~~

A Guardian Angel flew down from above, to teach me a lesson about the powers of love. He whispers to me, take a hold of my hand, there are so many things I wish you to understand about the powers of love, and all it can do to someone who needs to share it with you. A pat on the back, a kind smile on your face, can make someone's life a much brighter place. It doesn't take much to show someone you care, to give them the love GOD gave them to share. So please keep in mind, all the powers you possess, to grace someone's life when they're is distress. You've been put on Earth to bestow the powers of love, and with those final words, Dave disappeared up above.

Still missing you. ~~They say there is a reason. They say time will heal. But neither time nor reason, will change the way we feel.~~For no one knows the heartache that lies beyond our smiles, no one knows how many times we have broken down and cried.~~We want to tell you something so there is no doubt, you're so wonderful to think of, but so hard to be without. we cannot bring the old days back, when we were together. The family chain is broken now, but memories live forever.~~ Your Army Family~~Yes, we all thought of you as one in our very large family.

Memories.~~ Within my book of memories, are special thoughts of you, and all the nice things you often say and do.~~As I turn the pages, and recall each single thought, I realize the happiness that knowing you has brought.~~There are memories of times we've shared both bright and sunny days. There are thoughts of your kindness and your friendly thoughtful ways.~~And when I recall these memories as I go along life's way, I find they grow more precious still with every passing day.~~Thank you for being such a good friend to the 2nd Battalion.~~You will not be forgotten ever.~~Sleep well .~~

Submitted in David's memory with his beloved family in mind.~~My Dearest Loved One, I receieved your letter from Heaven, it made the teardrops fall. But, knowing that you are with GOD above, sweet memories I will recall.~~I know that you are with me, for I feel your presence near. And if I listen closely, your voice I then can hear.~~I know that you're watching over me, as you promised you would do. And, when I feel so saddened, it's your letter that sees me through.~~When I lay in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight, I truly feel your presence, like a warm and glowing light.~~The rocky roads you mentioned, and the hills I must climb; I've done exactly what you said, by taking one day at a time. ~~I've tried to help others, who are in sorrow and pain. And now I am contented my day was not in vain.~~I'll lend a hand. as you have said, when someone is feeling low. I'll pray for them and be here, 'till on their way they go.~~And when it's time for me to go, to join you in Heaven high, my wings I shall spread wide, to my home up in the sky.~~Jan Kinley-Hardin, Louisville, Ky.

There's a pain beyond imagining that's burning in your heart for suddenly your whole world has been cruelly ripped apart. The only source of comfort are you memories & the love & they will shine forever like the brightest stars above. But, his loving smile will always be tucked in your hearts with love. David will watch over you from Heaven & help you through the pain. You will always love and miss him until you meet again.~~Hazel Kessler Louisville, Ky.

Friendship is a priceless gift, that cannot be bought or sold. But, it's value is far greater than a mountain of gold. So, when you ask GOD for a gift be thankful if He sends not diamonds, pearls, or riches, but the love of real, true friends.~~Dave was a gift from GOD.~~Sleep well my friend.~~

Life goes on. ~~If, I should go before the rest of you, break not a flower or inscribe a stone. Or, when I am gone speak in a Sunday voice. But be the usual selves that I have known.~~Weep if you must, parting is Hell. But, life goes on, so sing as well.

Remember me on quiet days while raindrops whisper on your pain. But in your memories have no grief, let just the joy we knew remain. Remember me when the evening stars look down on you with steadfast eyes, Remember me if once you wake to catch a glimpse of red sunrise.~~And when your thoughts turn to me, know that i would not have you cry. But live for me and laugh for me, when you are happy, so am I.~~Remember an old joke that we shared; think of me when Spring walks by. Think of me when you are glad and while you live, I shall not die.

A Hero.....Standing here looking at this stone, you're someone I've never known......But, I can feel your spirit, your voice I can almost hear it...... Eyes looking back at me are stoic, your expression is so heroic.....Your life your courageously gave, for the home of the brave.....America you proudly defended, and you will always be commended..... America will always be proud of you, you're the proud, the brave, and the few.....You sacrificed your life for those, who turned their back to oppose.....Freedom will always be worth, the reason you left this earth.....Heroes don't come back from war, over America their spirits soar..... Thank you Soldier for being brave, sacrificing your life for mine to save....Toby B. Meyer, Louisville, Ky.

Empty Boots....Dog tags hang over boots laced up, a bayonet stabs the ground. Kevlar perched on a 16 butt, fellow soldiers gather around.~~Warriors in their battle gear, weapons at their side. Bow their heads as words are said, to honor one who died.~~An American Hero gave his life defending Liberty, the price he paid was gladly done, for country and family.~~Those empty boots do not support a body or soul, no more they'll run for cover or some loved one dear to hold.~~As one by one soldiers pass, this tribute to their own, thoughts fly to their families across the ocean foam.~~Now Salute, as TAPS is played, blink tears out of eyes, the ache you feel inside your heart is Freedom's Painful Price.~~101st Airborne~~ Ft. Campbell Ky.

American Soldier.....They ask him why he'shipping off to fight. They fail to see what's on the line, all their freedoms, all their rights.~~Comprehension is beyond their grasps that someone's got to go. And, while every breath may be his last, no fear, no doubt will he ever show.~~Because he knows that if he dies in some far off foreign land, that his valiant efforts may save lives of his countrymen, family and friends.~~And that girl's picture in his pocket, though how he longs to hold her, will forever be carried in the heart of this true American Soldier.
David L. McDowell

Don't Weep For Me......Please don't weep for me this day, as I gave my all for my beloved U.S.A., So, that you my dear loved ones and all of America's daughters and sons could contine to enjoy liberty that was also blessed upon me by those before me......who died defending our great Nation's Name.....And now I am among these Heroes all, who answered Bravely the Ultimate Fall. ...So, remember me for being there, standing tall out of loving care for all that we Hold True and Pledge Allegiance To, knowing that I am always with you as I was for Old Glory's, Red, White, and Blue.

Safely Home.....I am Home in Heaven dear ones; Oh, so happy and bright ! There is perfect joy and beauty in HIS everlasting light.~~All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed. I am now at peace forever, safely Home in Heaven at last.~~Did you wonder why I so calmly trod the Valley of Shade ? Oh, but JESUS' love illuminated every dark and fearful glade.~~And HE come HIMSELF to meet me on that way so hard to tread; and with JESUS' arm to lean on, I could not have any doubt or dread.~~Then you must grieve not so sorely, for I love you dearly still; try to look beyond the Earth's shadows, pray to trust our FATHER'S will.~~There is still work waiting for you. so you must not idly stand. Do it now while life remains, you shall rest in JESUS' Land.~~When that work is all completed, HE will gently call you home; Oh, the rapture of the meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come.~~Love Dave.

When you look into the sky and see a shining star, think of me and send a kiss, I'm never very far. When you see the moonlight dancing on the sea, and feel a kiss brush on your cheek, that's a kiss from me. When the sun is bright on the fields and there's flowers everwhere, if you look a little closer, you'll see me there. When the snow is falling hard and sparkling on the ground, feel the flakes on your face, and know that I am around. When you see a glistening raindrop or the grass covered in dew, don't let your heart feel heavy, just remember " I LOVE YOU.' Sending you all my love David. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Like a comet blazing across the evening sky. Gone too soon. Like a rainbow fading in a twinkling of an eye. Gone too soon. Shining and sparkly and splendidly bright. Here one day. Gone one night. Like the loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon. Gone too soon. Like a perfect flower that is just beyond your reach. Gone too soon. Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight. Here one day. Gone one night. Like a sunset dying with the rising moon. Gone too soon. GOD sent me down as a ray of hope and it has broken through. Tomorrow is a brand new day and I can start anew. The forecast is for sunny skies with not a cloud in sight. So, I'm getting a pair of shades and walking in his light. I'm packing up my yesterdays and leaving them behind. To run off with Joy and Love and Hope and my new found Peace of Mind. So, Mr. Despair don't look for me when tomorrow's day is done. I'm putting down roots in this place I found called GOD'S Garden in the Sun.

I've only gone to rest awhile....Fill not your heart in pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joys, the laughter, the smiles. I've only gone to rest awhile.~~Although my leaving has caused pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief.~~So, dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am but as I used to be.~~I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand in your hearts I've only gone to rest awhile.~~As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live in the hearts of all of you. ~~All of my love Dave~~~

The Oak Tree....A mighty wind blew night and day, it stole the Oak tree's leaves away, then snapped it's boughs and pulled it's bark until the Oak tree was tired and stark. But the Oak tree held it's ground while other trees feel around~~The wind gave up and spoke, " How can you still be standing, Oak? " The Oak tree said, ' I know that you can break every branch of mine in two, carry every leaf away, shake my limbs and make me sway, but, I have roots stretched in this earth, growing stronger since birth.'~~Until today, I wasn't sure of just how much I could endure. But now I've found with Thanks to You, I'm stronger than I ever knew.

It's lonely here without you, we miss you more each day, for life is not the same to us, since you were called away. To your resting place we visit, place the flowers there with care, but no one knows our heartache, when we turn and leave you there.

Ecclesiastes III 3:1-3:8----To everything there is a season, a time for everything under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to laugh and a time to cry. A time to dance and a time to mourn. A time to seek and a time to let go. This is the time we remember one who gave meaning to our lives. This is the time we will remember the bonds that tied us together, the love that we shared, and the memories that remain with us still.

I did not live for money, nor the accumulation of material possessions, nor for fleeting pleasures. rather, I lived for that which was priceless, unpossessible, and everlasting---for the love of those who I still love from Heaven.

And at the end of my time here whether it was short or long, or whether it was difficult or easy, will not really matter. It will have been a good life because I laughed and loved in the company of some of GOD'S finest.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path GOD laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or pray. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. Perhaps my time has seemed all to brief, don't lengthen it with undue grief. Lift up you hearts, and share with me. GOD wanted me now, He set me free.---In memory of David L. McDowell

People try to help me and everyone's so kind. But no matter what they say to me, I always seem to find, I start to get upset again. They can see it in my face, I wonder how they'd handle it if they were in my place. They look at me with sympathy. In a loving caring way, I thank them and attempt a smile as I walk away. The tears start welling up again, every time it's the same, I simply fall to pieces at the mention of your name.~~I can only imagine the pain the McDowell Family is going through. May GOD hold and comfort you tonight and each night for the rest of your lives.~~Dorothy Bowling, Louisville, Ky.

My Shoes....I am wearing a pair of shoes. They are ugly shoes. Uncomfortable shoes. I hate my shoes. Each day I wear them, and each day I wish I had another pair. Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step. Yet, I continue to wear them. I get funny looks wearing these shoes. They are looks of sympathy. I can tell in other's eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs. They never talk about my shoes. To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable. To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them. But, once you put them on, you can never take them off. I now realize I am not the only one who wears these shoes. There are many pairs in this world. Some people are like me and ache daily as they walk in them. Some have learned how to walk in them so they don't hurt quite as much. Some have worn the shoes so long that day's will go by before they think about how much they hurt. No parent deserves to walk in these shoes. Yet, because of these shoes I am a stronger person. these shoes have given me the strength to face anything. They have made me who I am. I will forever walk in the shoes of a parent who has lost their beloved child.~~Raven Meyer-Coan, Louisville, Ky.~~The love and memories will last forever.~~I am so sorry that you lost your cherished and much loved David.~~

Tattered around the edges, and faded now with time; memories that linger still, are what they left behind. Like a precious package, kept in a secret room; each moment a treasure, a heirloom.~~On rare and quiet occasions, the package opens wide, revealing then the memories that nestle inside, faces etched in memories like a photo from the past; each snapshot printed in the heart, and memories that last.~~Worn and ragged photographs, so faded now with time; yet the lasting love deep in your heart is what they left behind.~~Ken Meyer, Louisville, Ky.

Don't think of David as gone away, his journey has just begun. Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.~~Just think of him as resting from sorrow and tears, in a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days or years.~~Think of how he must be wishing that you could know today, how nothing but sadness can really pass away.~~And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched and he is loved so much.~~Martin Bryant, Louisville, Ky.

Dear Sgt. 1st Class McDowell..... I am grateful you chose to go when others said the cause was wrong. You did not turn your back in order to help in some way bring about peace. I am grateful to you because tonight I can sit down and eat a warm meal. I am grateful to you because I can say I do not like war. This is without worrying that my door will be kicked in and I will be dragged away.---Mostly I am grateful to you because of your sacrifices, I am reminded once again of what I have. For this I am grateful to you, because I can go out and say absolutely the dumbest things, and do so because being dumb is not a crime.---I am grateful to you because I get to sit down to my warm meal with family and friends in peace. I am also grateful to you because if I think a certain politician is a fool...I can think it without being lined up against a brick wall and shot.---There are many things Dear Mr. McDowell that I am grateful to you, because of the fact you did not say no.---Peace to you and yours and most of all I salute you, because well I am grateful to you Mr. McDowell.--- Michelle Elder, Louisville, Ky.

TAPS ......TAPS the most beautiful bugle call, known as the most eloquent of all.---Not only to signal the day is done, but to say goodbye, to a comrade, brother, or son.---A melody so hauntingly profound, a piercing yet peaceful sound.---Sounded over every Soldiers grave, to honor those who were so brave.---Soldiers raise their hands to their caps, Saluting the Fallen as the Bugler plays TAPS.---Rifles are fired in the sky, to say Farewell to another American G. I.---Listening to the bugle play, reminds us of the price they had to pay.---The sound is bittersweet, letting go of a hero, to someday meet again.---Nothing is so touching perhaps, or can render emotion like the call of TAPS.---You can hear the bugle weep, where men of valor sleep.---Tears from a bugle fall, as TAPS is played, for the heroes who gave their all.---Bill Meyer U.S. Army Sgt. I saw her from a distance as she walked up to the wall, in her hands she held some flowers as her tears began to fall, and she took out pen and paper as to trace her memories and she looked up to heaven and the words she said were these....She said, " LORD my boy was special, and he meant so much to me and Oh, I'd love to see him just one more time to see. All I have is memories and the moments to recall.----So, LORD could you tell him, He's more than a name on a wall.....She said, " He really missed family and friends and being home on special days and he died for GOD and Country in a place so far away.---I remember just a little boy playing war since he was three. But LORD this time I know, he's not coming home to me.---And she said, " LORD my boy was special, and he meant so much to me, and Oh, I'd love to see him but I know it just can't be. So, I thank you for the memories and the moments to recall.--But, LORD could you tell him, he's more than a name on a wall.

Freedom isn't Free---I watched the flag pass by one day it fluttered in the breeze. A young Soldier saluted it, and then he stood at ease.---I looked at him in uniform so young, so tall, so proud with hair cut square and eyes alert he'd stand out in a crowd. ---I thought how many men like him had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil ? How many Mother's tears ?---How many Pilot's planes shot down ? How many Foxholes were Soldier's graves ?---No-Freedom isn't Free.---I heard the sound of TAPS one night, when everything was still. I listened to the Bugler play and felt a sudden chill.---I wondered how many times that TAPS meant "Amen." When a flag had draped a coffin of a brother or friend.---I thought of all the children, of the mothers and wives, of fathers, sisters, and brothers with interrupted lives. ---I thought about a graveyard at the edge of town, David that you wouldn't see. Of all the graves of Fallen Soldiers.---No-- Freedom isn't Free-- Bob Bowling U.S. Army Sgt.( WWII and Korean War Veteran)

Final Inspection--- The Soldier stood and faced GOD which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining just as bright as his brass. --Step forward you Soldier, how shall I deal with you ? Have you always turned the other cheek ? To my church have you been true ?--The Soldier squared his shoulders and said "No, Lord I guess I ain't because those of us that carry guns can't always be saints.--I've had to work on Sundays and at times my talk was tough, and sometimes I've been violent because the world is awfully rough.--But, I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep. Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just to steep.--And I never passed a cry for help though at times I shook with fear, and sometimes GOD forgive me, I've weeped unmanly tears.--I know I do not deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fears.--If you've a place for me here, LORD it needn't be grand, I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, " I'll understand."--There was silence all around the throne where Saints had often trod as the Soldier waited quietly for The Judgement of GOD.--" Step forward, you Soldier, you've borne your burden well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, you've done your time in Hell."

Although I did not know Dave well, I did learn many things about life from him. He had the most wonderful motto for life. Dave's motto for life was as follows.---Life is too short.---Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness---Laugh when you can ---Apologize when you should and let go of what you can't change---Love deeply and forgive quickly---Take changes---Give everything and have no regrets---Life is too short to be unhappy--you have to take the good with the bad---Smile when you're sad---Love what you've got and always remember waht you had---Always forgive---Learn from your mistakes but never regret---People change and things go wrong---but always remember my love for you goes on and on !! ~~Deepest and most heart-felt sympathy~~

Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. ---We all have different journey's, different paths along the way, we were all meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay.....Our destination is a place, far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, for some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward, and find an everlasting peace, together with the LORD.---Martin Bryant, U.S. Army Sgt. WWII Vet., Louisville, Ky.

To some I may be nothing but a distant memory. My life on earth is over now, but do you remember me ? I know I left without warning, but GOD'S work for me was through. Please do not try to stop the thoughts of me, because I never will of you. Some may hear or speak my name and vanish the thought of me. No one stops to see, I am closer to you now than I ever was before, I love you all the same and will for ever more. So please don't let my memories slowly fade away.... For I'm still inside your heart, where I will always stay.-- Don't think of me as gone forever because someday we'll meet again. Keep me close inside your heart until GOD tells you when.--You may be there for many years, no one ever knows, so let my memory stay alive as the love inside you grows.

I have not turned my back on you, so there's no need to cry, I am watching you from Heaven, just beyond the evening sky; I have seen you fall apart, when you could barely stand, I asked the LORD to comfort you, and I watched Him take your hand. He told me you were in more pain, than I could ever be, He wiped His eyes and swallowed hard, then gave your hand to me; although you may not feel my touch; or see me by your side, I've whispered that I Love You, while I wiped away each tear you cried.

Love and Gratitude....The agony is so great and yet you stand it. Had you not loved so very much, you would not hurt so much. But goodness knows you would not want to diminish that precious love by one fraction of an ounce. The Soldier Poem---I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctatntly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness....should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the taste of a moments love. I have cried, pained, and hoped....but most of all, I have lived times others would say was best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was....A Soldier.

There beside a grave she stands, a folded flag clutched in her hands. A silent teardrop on her face, her brave young child has entered grace. She does not hear the sermon said, just memories run through her head. The child she held so long ago, the child with faith she let go. The child who heard the nation's call, and in the end gave it all, without fear or thoughts of self, thoughts of freedom and little else. The bugle sounds TAPS in the wind, a mournful song it does send. A reminder to us all, that for freedom, this price was paid, and her sweet young to rest was laid.--Thank You Mr. McDowell for Defending America and Freedom all over the world.--Your courageous sacrifice will never be forgotten.--Norma Meyer-Coan, Louisville, Ky.
