Soldier known for life of quiet service
Mother holds vigil at Crawford ranch to speak to Bush

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- He was an altar boy, an Eagle Scout, a church youth group leader. That is what people remember about Casey Sheehan, the 24-year-old soldier whose death in Iraq has become a flashpoint for debate about the war since his mother began a peace vigil outside President Bush's ranch in Texas.

Among family and friends -- not to mention TV pundits, Internet bloggers and newspaper columnists -- opinions vary about Cindy Sheehan's demand to meet with Bush to talk about why the United States went to war. Like others, they struggle with whether her determination to bring the war home honors or diminishes his choice to join the Army.

But those who knew the young man she so publicly mourns agree that if anyone is an appropriate face for the war's more than 1,800 U.S. deaths, it is Casey. He had a gentle but firm commitment to family, church and country, re-enlisting after the war started and volunteering for the rescue mission in which he and six others were killed last year.

Dear Casey,
I am so sorry for the loss of you to this war and for the pain this has brought to your loved ones as well.

I support your mother wholeheartedly in her quest for answers for your death and the deaths of so many others like yourself...who dedicated part of your lives to serving America.

Rest in peace and if you can, teach us what we need to learn about all this. Big request I know. But somebody has to and obviously, you are one willing to take on the toughest of tasks.

Thank you, Casey.

Thank you for igniting the anti-war movement. I know that it is a terrible price to pay, and that I can never repay your sacrifice.

My brother-in-law was killed by an IED one month ago. I understand the pain and grief his family is going through. I also have nothing but respect for what his mother is trying to accomplish. I, too, support our soldiers but I do not support the war. Please, dear God, bless our soldiers and help President Bush realize he needs to bring our troops home, NOW!

My condolences to the Sheehan family.

Casey paid the ultimate price for serving in the military. To him there is honor in that sacrifice and he shall always be remembered as a hero. But when his and other lives are needlessly wasted as cannon fodder for the over inflated ego of a dweeb with delusions of grandeur, who happens to be in a bought position of power, that is nothing less than murder and his blood and the blood of all the others with him shall always remain upon the hands of the man who, in truth, killed him.

My heart goes out to Casey's mom and all the families of those who have and must die for nothing more than the greed of power.

Memory of Casey Sheehan

Casey Sheehan was an adult who volunteered to serve in the army at the age of 21. He was a responsible adult who re-enlisted for a second tour, knowing full well that he might be sent to Iraq. He died a hero, doing what he was trained to do. It is a shame that his own mother is dishonoring him, his choice, his service, his committment in order to gain recognition for herself. She does not speak for Casey! He spoke for himself.

I don't know why Casey chose to become a soldier and fight in the Global War on Terror, but he did serve his country and he did make the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and safety of others.

He deserves to be remembered as a hero.

Mrs. Sheehan,

I just want to tell you, I am very sorry for the loss of your son. I am sure that it is very hard to bury your child.
I want to tell you, I think your son IS a hero. He died for his country and for the hope and freedom another country. He is an American hero and you should be very proud of your son. It sounds as though your son gave his all in EVERYTHING that he did.
Thank you for your son and for what you taught him. Thank you for raising a strong man who in the throes of war, gave all.

You are in my prayers,
CJ

I would like to express my condolences Cindy to you and your family and all the other families with fallen family members.
It is very sad that your son and all the other sons and daughters had to die because of lies and deception.
9/11 had nothing to do with the war.
9/11 is also a deception..
The airliner crashing into the Pentagon is a deception also.. Just look at the pictures.
Shame on you Mr. Bush..
Don't let up Cindy
