Tucson High School graduate Timothy Bowles, 24, was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday after he volunteered to take the spot of a “comrade who was ill,” said his father, retired Air Force Master Sgt. Louis Bowles.

Bowles, an Air Force staff sergeant, was sent to Afghanistan in November, his father said.

i knew tim he was a good person no a great person i remember when we both arrived to our first duty station 6 years ago man he was funny and he always made me laugh it seemed like only yesterday he was telling me how he was deploying and i was too i just got back two weeks ago only to find my friend never made it back with me. i miss you man i wish i had the chance to say goodbye. gaby
